Polterabend

Polterabend
- this is an informal (informal dress and food) party at the evening before the wedding where plates and dishes are smashed (the broken pieces are thought to bring good luck to the bride). The bride and groom have to clean up everything.

People carrying dishes out to the street and smashing them, and a young couple, turned out bride and groom (to be?) trying to keep them swept up. Apparently the custom is that all old dishes should be broken before the wedding, and the marriage will be excellent if the couple can keep up with the sweeping.

The other Saturday, we attended a polterabend, which one of Bernie´s colleague planning to get married.

If you like to know some Culture and Tradition here in Germany-Married, please click this website,.....German Wedding Traditions. This is not an 'Advertisement.......I put some links which I think it is helpful and have more interesting to know and read.

Oo nga, hindi namin ito ginagawa ni Bernie, before our Wedding plan, I attended this as one of bernie´s friend married. Kaya naisip ko-namin ni bernie, ay hindi maggawa ng Polterabend.

kasi ito tingnan nyo, masaya nga, pero

ang..............AFTER..............tamad talaga si.... ako, ano?

Have a happy Sunday to all........................God bless

i only got to attend one polterabend - it was fun when they start throwing those plates and cups. but it is not really good for the kids.. they find it too loud and they're afraid of the broken pieces, hehe

I've heard about this custom before and find it very interesting. Thanks for sharing these photos. Grabe, ang dami palang dapat linisin ng couple. Looks fun but I can imagine how tiring it is when the festivities are over.

rather interesting (similar to the greek pracice of breaking plates on weddings). i don't know if i can stand it, but i heard some say it is exciting and gives one the feeling of empowerment. LOL
